Collapsed Kariobangi building was not approved, city resumes demolitions on Thursday

The five-floor building that collapsed in Kariobangi South on Tuesday was not approved and had been earmarked for demolition. Nairobi county executive for lands Christopher Khaemba, following the inciden t, said the demolition of unsafe buildings - which stopped in June - will resume on Thursday. On the wall that killed three people on Monday, the county public works chief officer Michael Ngare said the developer did not follow construction regulations. Khaemba said court orders and faceless developers have also led to the slow pace of demolition of unsafe structures. The team comprises six agencies among them county government, National Construction Authority and ministry of public works.
