Ron DeSantis reset his sights on an old target last Wednesday as he advised Floridians under the age of 65 against adhering to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s updated COVID-19 vaccine guidance. The CDC recommended that all Americans aged 6 months and older receive updated COVID-19 boosters made by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna that target currently circulating variants related to XBB. Anyone who recently had COVID-19 can wait three months to get the updated booster, and anyone who was recently boosted should wait two months before getting the new shot. During an address to a conference in Philadelphia in late June, DeSantis said: “In Florida, we fought the woke across the board, and as president, I will fight the woke in the corporations, I will fight the woke in the schools, I will fight the woke in the halls of Congress. We are going to leave woke ideology in the dustbin of history.”“Woke” is a term from African American English.
