The SNP leader has always vocally backed Scottish national teams in whatever sport they have enjoyed success. This was quickly picked up by Scotland’s Unionists - who created a video of the SNP leader with her face painted with a St George’s flag. During the 18-second clip, posted by the Unionist Club, Glasgow West, Ms Sturgeon is recreated singing Tina Turner’s anthem Simply the Best. Ms Sturgeon was later accused of "trying to rewrite history" after a coronavirus spike was linked to Scotland fans travelling to London. But ahead of the match Jenny Gilruth, SNP culture minister, said fans could travel if they had somewhere safe to watch the game.
