Sheriff Abas, the new chairperson of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), has to wait for the confirmation of the Commission on Appointments (CA) before he can take his oath. Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez says, this is following the rules of the CA. He explains, since President Rodrigo Duterte nominated Abas chief of the poll body at the time Congress is in session, he needs the CA's approval before he can be sworn into office. 38-year old Abas is the youngest Comelec head. Abas replaces Former Comelec Chairperson Andres Bautista who resigned.
