The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women today considered the eighth periodic report of Ethiopia on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. As for pastoralist women, the accent was on improving access to health, education, water and sanitation, and other basic services. Nevertheless, Ethiopia remained committed to the goals of gender equality and women advancement, and welcomed the dialogue with the Committee. The new Government was working on re-establishing the commitment to constitutional values and human rights. Training programmes were held for Sharia courts on the Constitution and the human rights of women.
