Go to the website of any major corporation and you’re almost guaranteed to find a section detailing that company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. Most companies now understand that workplace diversity is more than a box to check. As companies have woken up to the benefits of diversity and inclusion, we’ve seen greater efforts across the board to create inclusive corporate cultures that engage people of color, women and LGBTQ employees. It’s going to get harder and harder for companies to ignore the political issues that negatively impact employees and conflict with corporate values surrounding diversity and inclusion. Corporate diversity and political advocacy can no longer be kept separate, and companies must figure out how to merge the two in a way that feels inclusive, authentic and strategic from a business perspective.
