The Communications and Multimedia Appeals Tribunal has cleared the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) to revoke six broadcasting licences held by The Standard Media Group PLC due to unpaid regulatory fees and Universal Service Fund levies totalling Sh48.87 million. "The Communications and Multimedia Appeals Tribunal has today given the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) the go-ahead to revoke six (6) Standard Media Group's broadcasting licences over arrears amounting to Sh48,874,524.10," read a statement by the Communications Authority of Kenya. Prior to these actions, the CA had held meetings with Standard Media Group representatives on June 14, 2023, December 4, 2023, and February 9, 2024, attempting to encourage compliance. Founded in 1902, Standard Media Group is one of Kenya’s oldest and most influential media organisations. Compliance with licensing terms is essential, and the court ruled that Standard Media Group had ample opportunity to meet its obligations.
