What began as a silly season punt of a story has turned into Watergate on steroids for Katherine Zappone, Simon Coveney and to a leser extent party loving Tánaiste Leo Varadkar. Yes Leo atteding a festival in a park doesn’t make him look like the standard bearer for how to contain a virus, but c’mon. Then on Morning Ireland, a programme I’ve enjoyed for years, housing minister Darragh O’Brien gets lynched with questions as to whether Simon Coveney should resign. I sensed Jeremy Paxman’s spirit let loose as wave after wave of accusation poured forth. If ever a town has been improved by the actions of a few it is my hometown.
