Congress sources said the Gujarat unit had stressed the need to sustain the momentum in the last leg of the campaign before the first phase of polling on December 9. At a news conference, Singh went beyond economics to criticise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's politics and style. He contested Modi's allegations that the Congress is anti-Gujarat and that previous governments had done nothing for India. "I don't think I'm going to enter into any competition with Prime Minister Modi on the question of backgrounds." Teams from the Mahila Congress, Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India are carrying out a door-to-door campaign.
