OTTAWA — Parliamentarians are turning yet another page in the seemingly unending story of the short piece of legislation that would change a few words of the national anthem. A series of sub-amendments from Conservative senators so frustrated other colleagues in the chamber that the speaker intervened, during a June sitting, with a plea that everyone take a deep breath. Conservative senators haven’t seemed to let up on plans to continue introducing sub-amendments that will delay it further. He opined a “proper and thorough consultation with Canadians” would be required before a change to the national anthem is considered. It belongs to the Canadian people, and it is not ours to change.”Still, enough is enough, and elected representatives have already approved the bill, Lankin argued.
