Statistics Canada released the consumer price index for April on Wednesday, and it confirms prices have been rising rapidly on Prince Edward Island since December. Nationally, prices were up 3.4 per cent compared with a year ago. UPEI economist Jim Sentance believes the quickly rising price index is an after-effect of the pandemic. When the pandemic hit in the spring, prices in Canada and on P.E.I. "In getting back to normal, we've got further to go," Sentance said of Prince Edward Island's situation.
