An internal review of Prevent has concluded that the scheme “should be strengthened, not undermined” with 12 recommendations made. The Home Office‘s strategy will be stepped up with the details to be published by the end of the year, according to The Guardian. It came as Neil Basu, senior national co-ordinator for counterterrorism policing, called for biometric scans to be increased at UK borders to stop extremists getting into the country. The Prevent programme, which began in 2012, has had more than 8,000 people referred for possible inclusion but it has been criticised for spying on Muslim communities.
