But in recent years, Coronation Street has done away with the slow-burning stories on which it was built. Nostalgia is the very nucleus of soap - and Coronation Street bosses would likely do well to remember that. But they don't need to attain the global Netflix figures they seem to be after - Coronation Street has a history that modern shows can't buy.
