And among 133 viral samples that were genetically sequenced, 90% were identified as the Delta variant or an offshoot of the strain. Apparently, the Delta variant spread just as easily among vaccinated and unvaccinated people who gathered in restaurants, bars and vacation homes. Considering that an estimated 82% of recent coronavirus cases in the U.S. were caused by Delta, people inside the CDC argued that something had to be done. “That’s the equivalent of this moment with the deadliness and efficiency of the Delta [variant].
