The council’s finance team says improvements are being made after concerns were raised about how much it is costing to audit the Borough’s finances. “The total is just over half a million extra audit fees, which in my experience is just extraordinary,” he said. “Some of these [issues] arise from a lack of records and information being able to be given to the auditors,” said Ms Griffiths. The Borough’s finance team’s resources are ‘very tight’, she said. The Borough is also carrying some ‘key vacancies’ in the finance team – reflecting a general difficulty in recruitment across local government, Ms Griffiths added.
