Two hikers who ran into trouble on the East Coast Trail on the edge of St. John's Wednesday evening are safe thanks to a Cougar helicopter that was nearby doing training exercises. According to the RNC, a Cougar helicopter crew happened to be training in the area and offered to help the couple. After landing at St. John's International Airport they were brought to hospital, where the man was treated with minor injuries. Once they arrived, the crew lowered search and rescue technicians and hoisted the hikers into the chopper. Police said a man and woman were hiking in the Freshwater Bay area when they called for help around 8 p.m., saying the man had hurt himself and that they had become lost.
