Council flies flags in celebration of Somerset Day

FLAGS are being flown above Weston-super-Mare Town Hall and the North Somerset Council offices in Clevedon to honour Somerset Day. As explained on the Somerset Day website, the annual event is inspired by Alfred the Great’s call to arms and the gathering of ‘all the people of Somerset’ to march against the invading Viking army. Posting on Facebook, spokesperson from North Somerset Council said: "We’re flying the Somerset Flag above the Town Hall and our Castlewood offices to mark the day, and you can get involved too by taking part in Somerset’s biggest ever quiz! "To take part, tune into BBC Radio Somerset between 7pm and 9pm tomorrow (Friday May 12), or you can host your own quiz! Find out more, including what prizes are on offer, on the Somerset Day website at www.somersetday.com/somersets-biggest-ever-quiz."
