A three-judge panel of the Ontario Court of Appeal found that the trial judge “made certain findings that are problematic” when she convicted Sanchez of molesting one female patient known as L.H. Ontario’s top court has ordered a new trial for a retired pediatrician found guilty of sexually assaulting two female patients when they were children. Following his convictions in 2015, Sanchez was sentenced in 2016 to 18 months in jail by Superior Court Justice Nancy Backhouse. “There was simply no evidentiary foundation for the trial judge’s conclusion that the appellant’s willingness to make house calls to give injections to L.C. was the result of an ulterior motive,” Nordheimer wrote for the appeal panel.
