Court sentences human smuggler to 3 years in prison


The Tripoli Criminal Court sentenced a member of a criminal organization to 30 years in prison and fined him 90,000 dinars after convicting him of human trafficking and smuggling migrants by sea. A statement from the Attorney General's Office, posted on its Facebook page, explained that the prosecution had filed charges against the defendant after he was found to be part of a criminal group whose members deliberately engaged in human trafficking and organized the smuggling of migrants by sea, in addition to depriving some migrants of their freedom and subjecting them to coercive conditions amounting to slavery. The Tripoli Criminal Court, in its final session, sentenced the defendant to 30 years in prison and fined him 90,000 dinars, the statement added.
