The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in a statement that the areas covered under the new eviction ban are most susceptible to a spike in Covid-19 cases if mass evictions were to occur. The original eviction moratorium that started last year in response to a surge in Covid-19 cases expired July 31. States with the highest rates of Covid-19 cases are mostly concentrated in the South and include Louisiana, Florida, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Oklahoma. Landlords can also apply for emergency rental assistance on behalf of their tenants; however, rules might vary by local municipalities.
