The first unit of convalescent plasma, as it is called, will be donated this week and stored at minus 18? Approval from the SA Health Products Regulatory Authority for the clinical trial is expected soon. This pandemic provides the greatest opportunity yet to develop convalescent plasma therapy into a viable treatment option for Covid-19 until a vaccine is developed. The trials are part of an initiative by the US National Covid-19 Convalescent Plasma Project, a group of physicians and scientists from 57 institutions in 46 states. A total of 600 Covid-19 patients will be recruited to the Phase 2B clinical trial.
