Coronavirus has not mutated to become more infectious, according to a scientific study that debunks a widespread theory. Scientists identified 12,706 total mutations in SARS-CoV-2 — the virus which causes Covid-19 — and none of them were found to boost infectivity. Other studies at individual hospitals have found the D614G strain accounts for more than 99 per cent of all cases. But this study did not look at why the G strain was found to be more infectious than the D form.
