The company's aim is to now develop vaccines that eliminate SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, in living animals. The vaccines could be used to ensure cats and other pets do not become 'a reservoir' for future outbreaks. 'The ability to control SARS-CoV-2 and prevent Covid-19 re-emerging from animal populations might become a key tool in the fight against this pandemic.' The company is also investigating the longer-term potential of human vaccines and the next stage of development will assess the technique's safety for use in humans, the company said in a statement.
