Covid passports: Countries mandating vaccine certificates for restaurants

Debate is raging over whether to introduce so-called Covid vaccine passports to allow people entry into venues such as pubs and restaurants in the UK, a measure that has been adopted in several countries. The daily case count was 27,734 on Wednesday, meaning new infections are down 36 per cent week on week. With the vaccination programme slowing in the UK, the introduction of vaccine passports could encourage more adults to get jabbed in order to enjoy a pint or a meal indoors. This was the view of Dr Peter English, former editor of Vaccines in Practice and former chairman of the British Medical Authority’s public health medicine committee, who told i that vaccine passports are “very reasonable”. Just over 83 per cent of adults have received a first dose and 70 per cent have been fully vaccinated.
