Crews still working to restore power to hundreds after animal contact causes widespread outage in east end, Toronto Hydro says

Toronto Hydro is working to restore power for roughly 350 customers in the city’s east end after a transformer fire near Broadview Ave. and Dundas St. E. caused an outage Thursday morning. The fire led to a widespread outage between Gerrard St. E. and Lake Ontario and between the Don Valley Parkway and Woodbine Ave. that initially left 3,800 people without power. Toronto Hydro spokesperson Tori Gass said crews worked steadily to restore power to most customers and are making progress to return power to the remaining 350 customers over the next few hours. Toronto Fire Services responded to the blaze at Broadview Ave. and Dundas St. E around 6:45 a.m. Thursday. Toronto Hydro confirmed the fire was caused by animal contact with an electrical wire.
