Patna, June 28: The state cabinet on Wednesday approved ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to the widow and two small children of Mohammad Sohail, who was murdered in Saudi Arabia for rooting for the Indian cricket team. "Sohail was stabbed to death by the Pakistani national while he was asleep," cabinet secretariat department principal secretary Brajesh Mehrotra said today, after announcing the ex-gratia payment for Sohail's widow Mahjabi Khatoon and her children. "The reason was that Sohail had rooted for his motherland during the cricket match and had opposed insults to the country while watching the game," Mehrotra added. Madhubani district magistrate Shirsat Kapil Ashok said he had received information about Sohail's murder from local people and police officials and had passed it on to the state headquarters. "The deceased youth was an ITI diploma holder and was working with a company called Jazeera in Saudi Arabia," Shirsat said.
