Several crocodiles were seen in the coastal city of Townsville, about 840 miles north of the state capital Brisbane, as the authorities were forced to open the floodgates of a dam last night. The Australian Defence Force delivered 70,000 sandbags, deployed amphibious cargo vehicles and helped rescue residents from rooftops after some areas received a year’s worth of rainfall in a week. The deluge has led to flash flooding, landslides and power blackouts for more than 15,000 people. Queensland police sent out warnings after crocodiles were spotted“We’ve never seen so much water in our lives,” Gabi Elgood, a journalist from Townsville, said.
