Cumbria hit by rain as amber and yellow alerts issued


The Met Office issued the warning ahead of expected 'very heavy and persistent' rainfall across parts of the county from 6am on Sunday, December 14 until 6pm on Monday, December 15. The amber warning for rain covered Workington, Whitehaven, Cockermouth, Keswick, Ambleside and Bowness on Windermere. The yellow warning for rain was also in place for other parts of Cumbria including Carlisle, Penrith, Kendal and Barrow. On Saturday, December 13, agencies across Cumbria declared themselves on standby for a major incident ahead of heavy and persistent rainfall across Cumbria. Speaking on December 13, Chief Superintendent Carl Patrick, of Cumbria Constabulary, is chairing the Local Resilience Forum response.
