Evidently, expectant mothers and cancer patients mean nothing to the keyboard commandos who stealthily planted their computer virus to prey from afar. The hackers swooped to lock the HSE out of its own systems in order to steal data and then try to extract a ransom. The National Cyber Security Centre and gardaí are cooperating with Interpol and other police services to identify the origin of the hack. Clearly, cyber security has to be addressed on a global basis with maximum cooperation if there is any chance of success.
