The crash occurred just before 3 p.m. in Aulds Cove. The crash happened near a truck weigh in station near the start of the causeway, according to an employee at an Aulds Cove business. The Canso Causeway is the only link between the mainland and Cape Breton island for drivers. Highway 104 was closed between Aulds Cove and the roundabout in Port Hastings on Cape Breton island for about six hours as police gathered evidence in order to determine the cause of the collision. Fire halls in both Cape Breton and Aulds Cove opened their doors to give motorists and passengers a place to warm up and get refreshments while they waited.
