New national champion Georgia Williams riding high on the road PHILLIP ROLLOJOHN COWPLAND/PHOTOSPORT After three years as runner-up Georgia Williams was finally able to celebrate winning the elite road national championships. Georgia Williams believes she is capable of riding for a medal at the Commonwealth Games, after winning both the women's time trial and road race at last weekend's national championships. Williams will proudly sport the New Zealand jersey on the UCI Women's World Tour this year after the 24-year-old's produced two stunning performances in Napier. She said it was the perfect base as the city is buzzing with other riders and is closely situated to many World Tour events. But they understand that Commonwealth Games is important to me and they've been really good and have said they will allow me, if selected, to take time to race Commonwealth Games.
