Cylinder blast in Chennai: Cylinder blast at Chennai shop claims fireman’s life


CHENNAI: A fireman died and 48 others suffered injuries in an LPG cylinder explosion at a sweets and savouries shop at Kodungaiyur in Chennai on Saturday night.The deceased has been identified as Egappan, 56, a fireman.Police said fire broke out at Murugan Hot Chips on the Meenambal Salai around midnight, and fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the spot.When the firemen tried to open the door, an LPG cylinder exploded causing injuries to firemen and several people who gathered outside the shop.The injured were taken to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital and Government Stanley Hospital. As many people suffered more than 40% injuries. Two of them suffered more than 70% injuries.Chennai city police commissioner AK Vishwanathan visited the injured at the hospitals.
