MANILA, Philippines — Members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations are inching closer to achieving better cooperation on tax matters after gaining “substantial progress” in discussions on regional taxation agreements, the Department of Finance said Friday. The Philippines chairs the ASEAN Forum on Taxation-Working Group (AFT-WG) from 2018 to 2019. According to Finance Undersecretary Gil Beltran, certain “initiatives” on cooperation on tax matters were completed so far and were endorsed by the AFT-WG. Also expected to be discussed in the March 2018 meeting are “ASEAN members' assessment of the training by the Kookmin Institute of South Korea, and the progress on the completion of the double taxation agreements,” Beltran said.
