Dhaka University students staged a protest in front of Shahbagh Police Station on Tuesday, demanding justice for fellow student Nayem Uddin who was assaulted during a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) anti-drug drive at Suhrawardy Udyan on Monday. The demonstration began at 1pm, and by 2pm a student delegation had entered the station for talks with officials. The incident occurred on Monday when Nayem Uddin, a student of the university’s Anthropology Department, along with two journalists, was assaulted during what authorities described as an anti-narcotics operation. Speaking at the protest, Nayem questioned how “a drug syndicate is allowed to operate openly” in Suhrawardy Udyan when the police station is located nearby. “People have gathered here today because I was attacked as a Dhaka University student.
