The Laikipia government has sent a 300-strong delegation to the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports Association Games and will spend Sh16 million in allowances on them (see page 24). Governor Joshua Irungu’s administration needs to get its priorities right. The Games go back to the pre-devolution days of the now-defunct municipal governments and offer great networking, bonding and talent spotting opportunities. Legendary heavyweight Wangila Napunyi, who took the gold at the Seoul Olympics in 1988, launched his career at these Games. If Laikipia can’t afford it, let them skip the Games until next year.
