Mediation may soon be one way the Senate and the National Assembly settle their differences – if they both agree to it. The National Assembly has proposed resolutions, such as enhancing the legislative process mechanism and mediation. The MPs have proposed mediation committees be set up to seek opinions of the departmental committees on both Houses before finalising the mediated version of a Bill. The mandate of the mediation committees will be restricted to only those clauses referred for mediation. The MPs proposed the assembly focus on constituencies while the Senate checks the county governments’ interests during public participation to avoid duplication of efforts.
