The Government has a job on its hands trying to get sections of the black and Asian population to take the vaccine in the first wave as it is. As highlighted by the Mirror’s Black Britain week in June, if you are black you are five times more likely to die in ­childbirth. If you are black you are four times more likely to be detained under the Mental Health Act. In April I wrote about the first 10 doctors in the UK named as having died from the ­coronavirus being black, Asian or minority ethnic. If public trust in the Government is in the gutter, trust in it from within the black and Asian community is lower still.
