Dbeibah urges deeper intelligence coordination at Tripoli conference

Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah has said regional security is a “collective responsibility” that cannot be achieved by individual states, calling for stronger intelligence coordination and timely information-sharing to tackle cross-border threats. Speaking at a conference of military intelligence chiefs from Sahel and Mediterranean countries held in Tripoli, Dbeibah stressed that building trust between security agencies is essential, describing the exchange of intelligence as a cornerstone of effective security efforts. Meanwhile, Libya’s military intelligence chief, Maj Gen Mahmoud Hamza, warned that the country’s southern borders had become “open corridors” for threats ranging from arms smuggling to terrorism. He called for a shift from coordination to “genuine intelligence integration” and the development of a unified, proactive security system. Officials from several countries, including Turkey, Sudan, Algeria, France and Italy, took part in the conference, focusing on ways to strengthen joint responses to shared security challenges.
