Mr Kongkiat said the species, also known as the tropical bottlenose whale, belongs to the beaked whale family (Ziphiidae). The finding increases the number of species of whales now found in Thai waters to 29, according to ThaiWhales, a Facebook page. The Longman's beaked whale is among the rarest cetaceans.
