Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips announced Friday that he will not seek reelection to Congress next year as he pursues a long-shot challenge against President Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination in 2024. “[After] three terms it is time to pass the torch,” Phillips said in a statement, echoing the argument for generational change he has called for in his primary bid against Biden. Phillips formally launched his campaign for the Democratic presidential nod last month in New Hampshire. Instead, Phillips has started to take shots at Biden over policy and has criticized the administration’s handling of the Hamas hostages situation. The White House reacted to Phillips’ decision to not run for reelection by pointing to his record in Congress.
