Tributes are being paid to the late hospital reform campaigner James Johnston, whose daughter Aoife Johnston died aged just 16 in University Hospital Limerick (UHL). Mr Johnston died on Friday morning after being ill with cancer, his family said. Mr Johnston and his family had publicly campaigned for reform and change at UHL in the wake of Aoife’s death in December 2022. Mr Johnston told her about how he had tried to get her help in the overcrowded emergency department, but to no avail. The family shared the sad news about Mr Johnston with the patient advocacy group Midwest Hospital Campaign on Friday afternoon.
