A Dhaka court has barred former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman, sentenced to death in a crimes against humanity case, from leaving the country following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order on Wednesday after ACC Deputy Assistant Director Abu Mohammad Anwarul Masud sought a travel ban. Bench assistant Riaz Hossain confirmed the matter. The ACC told the court that an investigation was underway against Habibur and others over allegations of bribery, corruption, illegal wealth accumulation, and transferring assets abroad, warning he was attempting to flee and could hamper the probe. On January 26, the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced Habibur to death for crimes against humanity over the killing of six people in Chankharpul, Dhaka, during the student-led uprising from July 24 to August.
