CAIRO – 28 March 2021: The Egyptian Civil Protection Authority announced Sunday the rise of death toll to 23 after five bodies were pulled out the ruins of a building that collapsed Saturday in Cairo's Gesr El Suez Street. The search for two victims is still underway, while 25 injuries are confirmed. The building consisted of a basement, a ground floor, and nine other floors. The primary reason behind its collapse is that a workshop owner removed pillars to enlarge the place. The Cairo Governor ordered forming an engineering committee to inspect adjacent buildings, while Public Prosecutor Hamada el-Sawi ordered an urgent probe into the incident.
