Defending champion Golden Bears headed back to national hockey final

The defending national-champion University of Alberta Golden Bears men’s hockey squad earned the chance to defend their national championship after knocking off the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, 3-0, on Saturday. And in what came as a surprise to absolutely no one, the two western rivals clashed once again in the national semifinal round at Lethbridge’s Enmax Centre. With the Bears forward slow to get up, Huskies forward Carter Folk saw his afternoon end with being assessed a five-minute major for hitting from behind. One minute and 38 seconds into the third period, Bears captain Riley Kieser broke the stalemate as the Bears continued pouring on the pressure. “This is what you coach for, this is what you play for, games like this,” said Herbers, whose replacement, Serge Lajoie, led the charge for the Bears to last year’s national banner.
