Tim Firth, head of Wrekin College in Shropshire, said university was no longer an automatic choice for high-achieving teenagers and that he did not consider it the ultimate path to success. Today’s generation needed instead to be exposed to the world of work, to toughen them up and make them more resilient as employees, he said. The day and boarding school has opened a new £1 million business school, including a boardroom, breakout collaboration areas, workplace-style “hot desks” and lecture theatres. Local businesses, as well as students, will be able to use the facilities.
