Two days after announcing plans to keep open many primary schools in London despite surging coronavirus case numbers, Gavin Williamson backtracked yesterday and announced that all London primaries would remain closed after the break. The National Education Union said all secondary and primary schools should follow suit. So did the GMB and National Association of Head Teachers. Mary Bousted, joint general secretary of the National Education Union, said: “What is right for London is right for the rest of the country.” She added: “It is welcome that, albeit in their usual last-minute fashion, ministers have corrected an obviously nonsensical position:
