Food delivery company Deliveroo, alongside 57 of the restaurants it works with, has called on the Government to ban commercial evictions and cut the VAT rate for restaurants to zero per cent in a bid to help the sector recover from the Covid-19 crisis. The company’s calls add to those from restaurant bodies which have made clear the extent of the damage the pandemic will have on the food trade. Deliveroo itself has not escaped from the reversal in fortunes for the sector. The Irish Times reported last month that the company was to lay off seven of its 16 staff in Dublin. Other signatories to the letter include restaurateurs behind Five Guys, Eddie Rockets, Xian Street Food and Musashi.
