Buttigieg, speaking at a rally on the steps outside the Iowa state capitol in Des Moines, said rights for the community were still under threat from Republican President Donald Trump, and he warned against complacency. Buttigieg said gay rights activists should welcome those who have changed their minds on the issue and become more accepting. Americans who have experienced the pain of discrimination over gender identity and sexuality were in a unique position to lead the fight for a more inclusive society, Buttigieg said.
