(Originally published Feb. 17, 2018)The school resource officer assailed for his response to last year’s shooting at a Parkland, Fla., high school that left 17 people dead was fired and charged with several crimes stemming from his alleged actions that day. Former Broward Sheriff’s Deputy Scot Peterson faces 11 charges, including child neglect, culpable negligence and perjury, said Michael Satz, the state attorney for Broward County. The charges, which legal experts say could be difficult to prove, carry a maximum potential sentence of 96½ years in prison.
