KUALA LUMPUR: The Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia (Rehda) is agreeable with the proposal for property developers to offer loans to house buyers, but only as a “bridge” to cover the downpayment. Rehda president Datuk Seri FD Iskandar said no developer in Malaysia has the capacity to provide 100 per cent loan to house buyers, but the proposal would at least assist with the downpayment. No developer, no matter how big they are, can afford to give out a full loan. We do not have the balance sheet to do so,” he told reporters during a media briefing on Rehda’s first half year report. “Most bank loans today will only cover 80 per cent of the house price compared to 90 per cent previously,” he added.
